preliminary tests indicate that the current mw4 lobby will support mw4 mercs patched all the way up to mektek's latest and greatest. testing will continue with nbt as well.

I was a little leary of approving your post, and I read your PM over very carefully, and I also visited your website.

The reason for being leary is from all of the spam we get where people are only looking to promote some casino game in Russia or whatever, and have no interest in what we do here. With that said...

Reverb grew from Slidegamers, which we formed back in 2006. The original concept came from Pyro, who was really pissed that Midtown Madness 2 could not be played anymore, so he started making the server code. Pavcules jumped in with Pyro, and started designing the client side. Both of them got really wrapped up, and with some time constrictions happening, I came on board to help with the client side. With the 3 of us working on it, it quickly grew from a single lobby gaming program, into multiple cdrom games of "the old flavor".

Along the way, we got side tracked by another website wanting to have better CDROM support than they currently had, and we moved the entire SG operations to them. Sadly, the promises made to us were never kept, and after 2 years of stagnation, we left the other site and ultimately ended up canceling their contract to use our software.

Along the way, the MECH folks loved what we did, and how we did it, and from there we re-branded our code, have made a huge number of modifications and updates, piles of feature enhancements, and of course are now in the process of getting our card and board side running.

From looking at your site, you seem to have the same passion for the MECH side of things, and perhaps a few other things as well. In the end, will you be "competition" to us? To be totally honest with you, I could really care less one way or the other. No offense to you and what you do of course! The internet is a big place, there are lots of sites that do the type of thing we do.

The biggest difference is that we just want people to have fun in what they play. At this moment, we don't generally interfer with what people do in the game lobbies. CDROM is by nature, a more violet type of atmostphere, and along with that comes the usual foul language and harassment. It's the way it is, and we try to respect that. Of course, there is a line that can be crossed, just like every place else. But we don't go in and "monitor" what is said and done, with our fingers on the gag and boot buttons.

Certainly tools are there... but the preference is to not use them unless its *really* needed.

I hope you like what we do, and you have fun being here and "doing" it. We are always open to suggestions, improvements, enhancements... By the way, in Mech 3 I've not been able to figure out yet how to get the team play side to function. The game does launch, it does go into multi-player... but the ability to select "teams" inside the game is not enabled. If you and your folks have any thoughts, I'd love to hear it.

Because of that, the MECH community is semi-divided. I know of another site that has gotten it working so I know it can be done. And we would love to re-unite the community of players, get some tournament lobbies up and running, along with some other things. The other site doesn't have tournament capabilites, so people are a little frustrated.

Well, thats part of the issue that divides the Mech community... Scott over at GR is the one that has the team play working, so there are folks over there playing that way. His interface is a bit weird, but his concept is completely different. I've exchanged emails with him, and he seems to be a cool guy to deal with, at least with my limited experience.

I am about at the point of my wits end, and I think I will email him again to ask him how he got the team play working. I'm even willing to mention his site. The point is some people like his system, some don't. All I am trying to do is offer a place where people can have fun. If they have fun here, and want to play here, then fine. If they don't... well, there are lots of other places they can be at. We are not trying to steal anyone away from anywhere, we are just trying to provide the alternative.

Hope things pick up with the free release, but you will have issues I'm sorry to say. :( During the signup process it is stated that while the forum software does allow spaces in nics, the gaming lobby software does not. You will need to either make a new nic, or... you can respond to this forum post and I can adjust your nic for you by either taking the space out of the name, or adding in perhaps an underscore for the space.

Again, sorry for the issue.

I was actually aware of that, and am planning on somehow modifying my name or making a new account if necessary.

Activity is, of course, the only issue. Although there does seem to be others who prefer a lobby-style setup as opposed to in-game server; typically pilots (like myself) who played mw4 on the MSN Gaming Zone since year 2000.

The game MW4 has changed over the years, since it first began with the release of the MW4 Vengeance Demo. Leagues were created and leagues died. Teams were established, and fond memories were created. As each new Microsoft patch to the game was released(1.0-3.0), teams and pilots changed and grew throughout the years. I started playing MW4 in 2000 when I was an eleven year-old kid and grew up playing the game.

There are 91 MechWarrior Pilots in my MSN Contacts, some of which I haven't spoken to in years. I have had the privilege of winging and competing against the best MW4 pilots in video game history, and participating in some of the best clans to grace the game.

Recognizable few that are worth mentioning:
VL\CZ CFW(Clan Fire Wolf)\KDx(Kurita Dominion) (FaMiN,KaMiKaZe,Rufio,Darkfoxx,etc.)
VL JF\HrR(Clan Jade Falcon,Hanson's Rough Riders) (Big Dozer,SnowHe11,Raverix Roshak, ReLiC,Allanon,Nightmare,Likwid Hazen,Pants,Destro,many others....)
BZ DCM(Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiers) (Warlord,Wizzy,truesh00t,BlackReign,Stealthetc.)
BZ HB(House Badass) (Deb0,Hayabusa,LIGHTNIN,etc.)
MWL MS(The Midnight Sons) (PitViper,Goa,DarkAngel,Cerberus,Immortal,Forge,WerewolfX,too many to name.)

Many other great clans have existed. Some great experiences and competition. Things have changed so much, many veteran pilots quit MW4 for various reasons. With MSN Gaming Zone no longer supporting MW4 Mercs, the ReverbClient could be a solid replacement.

I was furious when Microsoft closed the zone down. I even wrote a letter to them telling of the disaster they created and the number of people that depended on the "life-style" that had been created. Huge numbers of "shut-ins" who made it a part of their life, were instantly isolated. What pissed me off even more was they kept Bridge open, because Bill Gates loved to play Bridge with his friends. pffft... screw you Gates! With the billions of dollars you have, there was no reason to literally destroy a complete society of people... pardon the language but... you fucking inconsiderate peckerhead!

Anyway... As a plus on the zone, and involved more with the technical support side, I submitted a huge number of suggestions that would improve things which of course they never listened to. So when they closed it, and Pyro and Pavcules approached me with making something new, I jumped at the chance to show Microsoft just how easily it could have been better. The lobby system was designed to do a lot of things that the zone never bothered to make. We made lobbies with passwords that were not stored within the client, so hacking was impossible. We made the "re-launch" side so that people didn't have to all come back to the game table and launch again just because someone glitched out, or forgot to put the CD in. We made ignores permanent, so that if you had someone on ignore, and they left and came back they would STILL be on ignore. We made a "host-transfer" function so that people don't have to exit a room and come back in just so to change over who is hosting that table. And several other little things that just made it better.

Our system is not perfect of course. We really need a more global "friends" system, and a few other things. But considering that the design was based on running just a single game (Midtown Madness 2)... I think we grew it into something that is reasonably decent. We could have grown it a lot more if it had not been for 2 years of wasted stagnation at the other site that hosted our system.

I know that the MecTek folks apparently are planning their own server dedicated to the game. That will be bundled in with the free release side of things from what I understand. And of course, that too is very cool. All we are trying to do is make it feel like what it was back in the zone. People will play where they have fun playing, which is as it should be. We hope that some of those people will have fun here, because we made this "with love" for having fun.

I hope you can touch bases with your friends from the past, and bring some life back into gaming again. Best wishes for where ever it is that you play at. If you want me to edit your name (you can't do that) rather than re-make an account, just let me know.
