Whats this about Clan support?

Postby CanEh » Tue Apr 28, 2009 3:35 am

Yes, it is true... a fairly comprehensive Clan function has been added to the client program. Some parts of this are still in development, especially when it comes to wanting to create a clan but with that said, here are some of the things that the package currently includes for features.

When a Clan has been "approved" by Reverb staff, the primary owner of the clan will have full control over selecting which people they will allow into a clan. This means that people who want to join your clan must fit within the guidelines you have defined when your clan was created. (This is defining a clan "tag" that will be used, and then choosing if the people you want in your clan have nics that "start with", "contains", "ends with", or "none"... as part of their nic.) When those users are online and in the lobby you are in, your Clan Management form will display all potential names that could be "invited".

You can then choose from those nics, and send out an "invitation". Those users will be added to your "invited list" and will show up in your management form. The users who have been invited, will then see a message at the top of the Players List indicating they have been invited to join a clan. It is possible of course, for a single user to have invites from more than one clan, depending on how the clan(s) have been defined and how their name fits within those clan defintions. But once an invite is accepted, all other invites are removed. While a person is in a clan, no matter if they are active or not... they can not get invites from anyone else.

When an invite has been accepted, the clan owner or co-owner (if you have one) will see the players nic in the membership list, and of course, the invite will disappear from the invited list. All new members who accept your invite will automatically be placed in as non-active, so there are no suprises... and it will then be up to one of the clan owners to activate them into full clan membership. Once a user is an active member of a clan, they will display the clan avatar in the players list and in chat areas. Their nic will also display as a "clan member" color in the chat areas.

All clan members, no matter what clan they are in, will all display the "chat side" using the same color, however... as a member of a clan, you can configure the color that your "same clan" people will appear in. This is a user selectable configuration, and will not change how others see these people. There are a few exceptions with this, such as if a person is a Reverb staff member and they are also in a clan, then staff colors will always over-ride clan colors. And if you also happen to have one of the Reverb membership packages, and the person in the clan (other than yours of course) also happens to be in your "Friends List", then that user will display using the color you have defined for showing friends.

People who have a membership package and are also an active member of a clan, will have their membership avatar displayed in the Players List and their nic color in the list will be that of the membership package, however both their membership avatar AND their clan avatar will be displayed in chat areas. Their "nic color" in chat will default to the membership color (unless of course the above noted "Friends principal" is in effect).

All active clan members will display their clan name and clan tag, when you "mouse over" their nic in the Players List.

Added in to this, is a "Clan Chat" which is very similar to the new Private Message chat that we recently updated to. If you are a clan member, you can access this function by right clicking on any name within the Players List, and select the "Private Clan Chat" from the menu. All messages sent will automatically go to all members of the same clan you are in, within the same lobby.

This is just the start of the Clan Features, and I am sure that down the road there will be additional functionality added. We at Reverb hope you will enjoy these new features, and look forward to hearing your comments!

There are several posts on clans, how they work, they way they work, etc. I have not enabled the "creation request" in the client because certain things need to be done manually (such as reviewing the clan avatar, uploading images to the server etc) and clans are also in a "beta" stage of sorts. Another part of the issue is people see it, want it.. and don't understand completely what it's all about because they don't come to the forums to read things... :P
